Erik ten Hag sends message to Manchester United players ahead of Everton game

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has reiterated he requires consistently high-performance levels from his players ahead of his squad facing Premier League strugglers Everton.

United saw out a gritty 1-0 victory over Brentford at Old Trafford on Wednesday and face a crucial month in their bid to secure Champions League football next season.

United's form has faltered over the past few weeks but supporters will hope they are back on track after securing the three points against Thomas Frank's side and next up is a tricky test against Everton at Old Trafford in the lunchtime kick-off on Saturday.

"You have to do it every game and that means preparation but it has to be the standard," Ten Hag said. "You're playing for Manchester United, so there's the demand. No but or if. That's your responsibility, a player has to deliver when you play for Manchester United. You have to be accountable.

"It's about demands, so we have to match standards always, it's about a culture, that you can only be a player for Manchester United when you match those standards and you have to do it always. It's not about once.

"When you're not in the absolutely top, they can do it once, but for a player playing at the top, competing for trophies, competing for winning Premier League, you have to do it always, consistently. It's our job to bring that mentality in."
