Erik ten Hag's dream Manchester United XI including Adrien Rabiot and three more signings

Erik ten Hag has been left with plenty of food for thought after Manchester United’s opening day defeat to Brighton.

Having seen some promising signs during pre-season, all of United’s problems from last season came back to haunt them as they slumped to a disappointing defeat at Old Trafford. And it has led to United making more moves in the transfer market.

A pursuit of Marko Arnautovic has been launched and then called off within the space of a few days, while a fee has been agreed with Juventus for Adrien Rabiot. But even if Rabiot was to head to United, Ten Hag certainly still has plenty more business he’d like to do, with a few players undoubtedly in his sights.

Goalkeeper: De Gea

There haven’t been any hints yet that Ten Hag is eyeing up a new goalkeeper to challenge David de Gea for the number one spot. The Spaniard will be under pressure to improve on his distribution this season, given the work his new manager has put in with him over the summer.

Defence: Timber, Varane, Martinez, Shaw

There might be plenty of United fans less-than-pleased with the way in which Jurrien Timber seemingly snubbed a move to Old Trafford this summer. Nevertheless, Ten Hag is a huge fan of the 21-year-old and would almost certainly give him the nod at right-back in his current side, so once the World Cup is out of the way the transfer may well be revisited.
