Conference?

Some at United have joked if they do end up in the Europa Conference League then they have the chance to complete the set and win the only European trophy that has 'eluded' them.

An August European qualifier to enter a third-rate competition would be a suitably punitive measure for United's season. As seemingly meaningless as today's game is - especially when there are greater stories at both ends of the table and the top four-related fixtures - securing sixth would put United in a competition that offers another route back into the Champions League, as United know from 2017.

The Ten Hag effect?
