Erik ten Hag reaction to Manchester United issues could decide Brighton fixture

Manchester United have somehow come out of the international break in a more precarious position than when it first began.

It started on the final shrill of the referee’s whistle at the Emirates Stadium after two stoppage-time goals saw Arsenal take the spoils and condemn United to their second defeat in four games. A few hours later and the social media timeline was ablaze with controversy.

Jadon Sancho had released a social media statement firing back at Erik ten Hag after he left the winger out of the matchday squad against Arsenal due to training levels. He has since deleted the post but this is the first issue Ten Hag must address.

With the reason for Antony's unavailability well-publicised, Sancho would have been in line to start on the right but for his public rebuttal. Instead, his future looks hazy and Ten Hag is to decide whether Sancho has a future in his squad plans.

If not, Facundo Pellistri is the only natural right-wing alternative available, although Bruno Fernandes has been used in the position at times. So has Marcus Rashford but both, United’s two biggest attacking threats, become much less effective when moved there.

Raphael Varane, Kobbie Mainoo and Mason Mount were all ruled out for the ‘first part’ of the season, a very ambiguous term used by the club that could mean their return is nearing or in fact still far off.
