Erik ten Hag makes striker transfer plea to Manchester United after Harry Kane songs

Erik ten Hag has called on Manchester United to give him a new striker this summer to strengthen his attack, demanding a "quality" player who can impact games on a regular basis.

Ten Hag is an admirer of Tottenham striker Harry Kane and United fans serenaded the England captain during the 2-2 draw with Spurs on Thursday night, telling him they would 'see him in June'.

United know extracting Kane from Tottenham will require doing a deal with notoriously tough negotiator Daniel Levy, although his hand is weakened this time by the 29-year-old having just a year left on his current deal.

If United can't do a deal for Kane they will switch targets. Napoli striker Victor Osimhen is of interest and Ten Hag also likes Benfica forward Goncalo Ramos.

While Kane created Spurs' two goals on Thursday, Ten Hag saw Rashford score from the centre-forward position in the first half before Anthony Martial took over in that role for the final half an hour.

Loanee Wout Weghorst, who has just two goals in 25 games, also came off the bench, and asked if signing a striker was a priority for the summer, Ten Hag made his feelings clear.

"Yeah, I think everyone knows, it’s not a secret," he said. "Over the whole season, we had a shortage of No. 9s.

"First we had the dropout of Ronaldo, then Anthony Martial was often not available, Jadon Sancho was often not available, then you have a shortage of frontline players.

"With less players we have to cover many games, so definitely we need the frontline players who strengthen the squad."
