Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has only been at work a matter of days but has already stumbled into a major problem at his new club.

The Dutchman is currently in the process of putting the majority of his new squad through their paces during the first few days of pre-season. Whilst the former Ajax man will now be getting a better idea of the qualities of the players already at the club, he will also be examining which positions need the most strengthening with the assistance of further investment via the transfer market.

It already appears that he has settled on a couple with reports suggesting that midfield is among Ten Hag’s priorities - Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong closing in on a switch to Old Trafford. Elsewhere, the Red Devils look to be bolstering their left-back options with a switch for Feyenoord defender Tyrell Malacia having hijacked Lyon’s move for the 22-year-old.
