Erik ten Hag already has '£28.8m transfer solution' to Manchester United's Harry Maguire problem

Manchester United have a number of problems to address in the summer transfer window but who they sign will most likely depend on which permanent manager they decide to appoint.

United's top managerial targets are Mauricio Pochettino and Erik ten Hag, though recent reports in the English media seem to lean towards the Dutchman being appointed the next man in the Old Trafford dugout, with Jonathan Schrager the latest to claim that the club has approached him.

So who would he sign?

A defensive midfielder and a striker seem to be at the top of the priority list for United and MEN Sport understands that the club are planning to make up to four signings in the summer.

Given how tumultuous this season has been so far and the demands the new manager will have, United could increase this number if the budget allows and some reports have stated that the club could look for another centre back to challenge Harry Maguire.

The Daily Mail has stated that despite Ralf Rangnick's public support of Maguire, he has his doubts behind the scenes and may suggest that a new centre back is signed as early as this summer.

If Ten Hag is appointed he may return to Ajax, who have a reputation for selling their top talent, to solve some problems. Jurrien Timber has impressed this season but is maybe too young to make the move to Old Trafford. His centre-back partner in Amsterdam could be the answer.
