Erik ten Hag admission shows Manchester United would get their own Pep Guardiola

Previous comments made from Erik ten Hag prove Manchester United would get their own Pep Guardiola should they appoint the highly-rated Dutchman.

Having sacked Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in November, key figures in the Old Trafford boardroom are yet to settle on his permanent successor. Manchester Evening News understands, though, Ten Hag is currently the preferred candidate for that position.

Ralf Rangnick is still in interim charge and will take up an advisory role at the end of this season, with United still intending to make an appointment before the summer. United can no longer win silverware this campaign - while Ten Hag and fellow front-runner Mauricio Pochettino also crashed out of the Champions League at the last-16 stage with Ajax and Paris Saint-Germain respectively.

Ten Hag has carved out notable success throughout his time with the Eredivisie giants, though. Indeed, the 52-year-old has won two league titles and two domestic cups since taking charge in 2017. Before that and a spell at FC Utrecht, ten Hag was the Bayern Munich II coach - and that experience coincided with Guardiola's time in the Bundesliga.

Needless to say, the Dutchman learned vast amounts from the iconic Manchester City manager. But what impact might that work have on his would-be United tenure? Speaking in 2019, ten Hag said: "I learned a lot from Guardiola.

"His philosophy is sensational, what he did in Barcelona, Bayern and now with Manchester City, that attacking and attractive style sees him win a lot. It's this structure that I've tried to implement with Ajax."
