England v Republic of Ireland: Player ratings

It was a game of two halves for the Republic of Ireland at Wembley as an encouraging showing turned into a nightmare once Liam Scales was sent off.

After a scoreless first half in which Ireland had two strong penalty claims, Scales picked up a second yellow for fouling Jude Bellingham in the box.

The floodgates opened once Harry Kane scored from the spot, with Anthony Gordon, Conor Gallagher, Jarrod Bowen and Taylor Harwood-Bellis all adding their names to the scoresheet for the hosts.

Caoimhín Kelleher - 6

Was his usual unflappable self in the first half but the Liverpool man wasn't really tested until England's second-half rampage. Made two good saves to prevent a sixth goal late on.

Dara O'Shea - 6

Showed good distribution down the right flank in the first half, most notably playing in Evan Ferguson before what appeared to be a blatant penalty claim. Played his part as Ireland's solid backline kept England at bay, before disaster struck early in the second half.

Nathan Collins - 6

The captain was utilised in an unfamiliar role of defensive midfielder, dropping back when England were on the charge. Made some crucial interventions throughout the first half. Couldn't rally the troops as Ireland leaked goals in the second.

Mark McGuinness - 6

Survived the early England onslaught on his debut. Grew in confidence as the first half wore on but much of that will have been wiped away during a chastening second half for the Boys in Green.

Liam Scales - 5
