England: Fans have best reaction to Millie Bright winning Arnold Clark Cup Golden Boot

On a cold night in Wolverhampton, history was made as England were crowned the first ever winners of the Arnold Clark Cup.

The Lionesses thwarted Germany — the third best ranked team in the world — at Molineux to clinch the inaugural title.

As well as helping her side lift the cup, defender Millie Bright stole the spotlight as she was awarded the tournament’s Golden Boot.

The England defender was presented with the award after the match and shared it with joint top scorer Alexia Putellas of Spain.

It was certainly a sight for sore eyes – a centre-back claiming the award for most goals scored in an international competition, and sharing it with the Ballon d’Or winner no less.

Bright scored two goals throughout the Arnold Clark Cup — rounding off her portfolio with a late strike against Germany to assist in taking home the win and the silverware.

Her first came in the 1-1 draw against Canada — a beautifully struck volley that left Stephanie Labbe stranded in the 22nd minute.

Despite being a central defender, Bright has still been partial to a goal or two throughout her career, and we’re not talking typical headers from set pieces either. The 28-year-old certainly has the ability in her locker to score top drawer goals.

In her five years at Chelsea, Bright has netted on six occasions. She has also tallied four goals for the Lionesses so far in her senior career.

Her ability in front of goal hasn’t gone unnoticed by Sarina Wiegman either, it seems. For a short period against Germany, the defender was actually playing up front, which blew the minds of so many watching both in the stadium and at home.

Throwing Millie Bright up front for the craic was a beautiful thing to witness
