England fans at World Cup: Can you drink in Qatar?

The draw for the Qatar World Cup has got us all very excited for the tournament later this year.

However, the greatest spectacle on earth will be a little different in 2022. In fact, it will be very different.

Most importantly, it will take place in November and December in the middle of the domestic season.

But it will also be extremely different for fans attending.

And a report from The Sun has exposed what English fans can expect if they’re planning on heading to Qatar later this year.

Firstly, supporters will have to pay more than an eye-watering £9,000 per night for a hotel.

To even get to Qatar in the first place will break the bank.

Direct return flights cost around £1,063.

Once you’re there, match tickets will set you back about £724.

But if you don’t have tickets, you won’t be allowed in the country at all.

Qatar has a population of fewer than three million and officials have said fans must have tickets and official Fifa IDs to prevent overcrowding.

Berhold Trenkel, chief operating officer of Qatar Tourism, told The Sun: “A decision has been taken that only fans with match tickets will be allowed visas.

“They will need official fan IDs to get into Qatar and those who do not have them will not be allowed to travel.

“The rules are strict and are there for a reason.”

If that wasn’t bad enough, Qatar sells the most expensive beer in the world with a pint of Heineken costing £11.50 and a glass of wine is around £11.

Beer will only be available in special zones around stadiums and some venues in the capital of Doha.

Buying alcohol at corner shops, supermarkets and most restaurants is impossible. Only if you stay in a hotel, can you buy it – but the prices are extremely high.
