England and South Africa draw ODI series as rain washes out deciding match at Headingley

England and South Africa draw their one-day international series after rain washed out play at Headingley on the decisive final day.

Play was stopped twice, first after around 90 minutes of play and then for a second time during the 28th over, before officials decided to abandon the match at around 4pm.

South Africa had elected to bat first and were on 159/2 from 27.4 overs, with Quinton de Kock scoring 92 runs from 76 balls.

Janneman Malan and Rassie van der Dussen both lost their wickets; David Willey taking the wicket of Malan, who hit the ball straight to Jason Roy on the edge of the ring to leave South Africa 24 for one.

Van der Dussen mis-timed an attempted sweep of Adil Rashid and was caught on the deep square leg boundary by Jonny Bairstow with South Africa on 99 for two.

The visitors hammered England in the first match at Chester-le-Street last Tuesday, winning by 62 runs, but England levelled with a resounding 118 run victory at Old Trafford on Friday, leaving the series poised for the decider on the final day.

England and South Africa next play each other on Wednesday evening in the first match of the T20 series in Bristol.
