Emmanuel Petit issues damning verdict on Anthony Martial's Manchester United future

Former Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Petit believes that Anthony Martial's career at Manchester United has reached the end of the road, insisting he has "not improved" in all his years at Old Trafford.

Martial, who joined Spanish side Sevilla on loan for the rest of the season during the January transfer window, joined United from AS Monaco in 2015 and was immediately tipped to become a global superstar. However, his career has not developed at the club how anyone would have hoped for.

Prior to leaving Old Trafford on a temporary basis in January, Martial had only made 11 appearances for United this season, scoring just one goal. His opportunities had become more and more limited and he only played once under Ralf Rangnick.

Although the impending arrival of Erik ten Hag could reopen the door on Martial's United career next season, fellow Frenchman Petit is unconvinced that he has any sort of future at Old Trafford. He believes the versatile forward has "lost his confidence," insisting it appears to be a common theme throughout the squad.

"Anthony Martial definitely does not have a future at Manchester United," Petit told bookmakers.com. "He has spent so many years there where he has not improved.

"I believe he has lost his confidence with Man United, and he has also lost his desire a bit. It seems to have happened to a lot of the Man United dressing room.

"They all look so damn unhappy, they don't look like a team with unity. There is no love for each other and there is no communication as well.

"You don't need to be in the dressing room to see that. As a former player there are things I can see on the pitch, and it is obvious to me."
