Emma Raducanu stuns Serena Williams on Cincinnati debut
Emma Raducanu got her Western and Southern Open debut off to a dream start after beating Serena Williams in straight sets.
The British number one played out her first ever match in Cincinnati against the legendary Williams, who recently announced she will be stepping away from tennis.
Raducanu secured a convincing 6-4, 6-0 win over the 23-time Grand Slam champion to book her place in the second round.
The two stars took to the court in the early hours of Wednesday morning to play out a blockbuster clash.
The mouthwatering tie served as preparation for both women ahead of the US Open. Raducanu will enter the tournament to defend her title, while Williams likely play out the final leg of her farewell tour.
Despite Williams showing glimpses of her incredible capability throughout the match, the tennis legend ultimately struggled against Britain’s rising star.
