Emma Hayes delivers Mauricio Pochettino snub to take call from Manchester United legend Sir Alex Ferguson

Outgoing Chelsea Women's manager Emma Hayes has admitted she hung up on Mauricio Pochettino to take a call from Manchester United legend Sir Alex Ferguson.

Hayes announced this week she would be departing the London club at the end of the season to take up a role as head coach of the US Women's national team (USWNT). The 47-year-old has presided over a successful reign in the capital where she has won a whopping 15 trophies in 11 years.

Her decision to leave Chelsea has been met with disappointment by the WSL club but has led to an outpouring of support both publicly and privately. In an interview with BBC Sport, Hayes admitted she was left in a dilemma when Ferguson called her but knew what she needed to do.

She explained: "We had a chat last week, he [Ferguson] rang me, but I was in the middle of talking to Poch so I was torn. There's not many people you tell Poch to wait for but I did say to him it was Sir Alex.

"He calls me from time to time so I wasn't surprised. Anything he says to me I always take with such pride.

"He is a legend of the game and someone whose opinion I value and he has a love of America. We talked a little bit about that, a little bit about legacy, a little bit about leaving at the top. So there were wise words from him. I'm sure it won't be the last phone call I get from him this season."

United's Adidas home shirt is made up of the same colour of the city's iconic red rose and features a black collar. The collar also features a dash of both red and white, giving it a slick and modernised look.

Prices start from £55
