Emiliano Martinez gives verdict on Aaron Ramsdale and his wild celebrations

Emiliano Martinez has praised Aaron Ramsdale for his rise, and thinks the Arsenal goalkeeper’s exuberant celebrations are a ‘good’ thing.

When the Gunners agreed a deal worth £30million in the summer to sign Ramsdale from Sheffield United, there was an outpouring of criticism from sections of the north London club’s fanbase.

Much was made of the fact that the 23-year-old had already been relegated three times during his career, but he has proven many wrong with his excellent displays for Mikel Arteta’s side.

Ramsdale has won the favour of Arsenal fans not only with his goalkeeping, but also his character and leadership on the pitch.

When discussing Ramsdale’s clear passion with Watford goalkeeper Ben Foster for Amazon Prime Video, former Gunners stopper Martinez said: ‘It’s good. The fact that I know what he’s been through as well. He played in League One, League Two, Championship, he was relegated from the Premier League. He has been through a lot.

‘Now, he’s winning every game and fighting for [a place in the] Champions League.

‘He doesn’t know what to do with himself [while celebrating], he’s sliding, jumping in the air, you know. He deserves it.’

Ramsdale has even been labelled the ‘signing of the season’ by ex-Arsenal striker Jeremie Aliadiere.
