Emerson Fittipaldi tips Lewis Hamilton for resurgence in Azerbaijan

Lewis Hamilton has been tipped to ‘come strong’ by former world champion Emerson Fittipaldi ahead of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.

The 7-time world champion has had a difficult campaign so far with the Mercedes W13 not the most competitive car on the grid, and the team have been working hard to try and rectify that.

In Spain, we saw improvement from the Silver Arrows and Hamilton showed great race pace, though an early collision with Kevin Magnussen meant that he could only finish P5.

However, Monaco was tougher for the Briton as he finished in 8th place, and the weekend showed that Mercedes have not yet fully cracked it with their car.

Even so, they’re hopeful Baku will be better for them this weekend in Azerbaijan, and former champ Fittipaldi believes that Lews is going to start picking up in the near future, alongside George Russell:

“George Russell is definitely going to do well (in Baku,)” he said to Vegas Insider.

“Mercedes is improving quite a lot.

“Lewis Hamilton’s car has been doing well for the last two Grands Prix, and I think he’ll continue to be stronger and come back strong in Baku.

“It will be great to see George Russell challenge Lewis Hamilton throughout the whole year. All the racing fans are watching that closely. Lewis is going to come strong now. It will be great to see.”

The Hamilton/Russell partnership is certainly one of the strongest on the grid and if the car can be quick enough for race victories then you would expect race victories to be delivered.

That might be out of the question in Baku for the Silver Arrows, but both drivers will be hoping that performance is going to pick up this weekend once more.
