Emergency services descend and lanes closed after two crashes on M60 and M62

Queues formed on two stretches of Greater Manchester motorway following two crashes. Emergency services were at the scene of a 'multi-vehicle' crash on the M60.

Drivers faced long delays approaching the scene on the M60 anticlockwise near Salford. One lane was closed between junctions 13 at Worsley and 12 for the Eccles Interchange.

National Highways said drivers are facing queues of around 40 minutes this afternoon (September 13). A spokesperson for National Highways wrote on X: "Following a multiple vehicle collision, lane 1 of (4) is closed on the #M60 anti-clockwise between J13 (#Worsley) and J12 (#M602) near #GreaterManchester.

"All emergency services and #TrafficOfficers are working at the scene with delays of up to 40 minutes on the approach." Meanwhile, drivers also faced delays on the M62 westbound.

Two lanes were shut between junctions 19 at Heywood and 20 at Rochdale. Both incidents have since cleared.

Delays from the M60 crash are now easing.

Heavy traffic remains on the M60 in both directions approaching the Eccles Interchange, following the earlier crash - and with rush hour on the way.

The incident on the M62 has now been cleared.

This is the latest from the M62, where queues are also building eastbound approaching Heywood following the crash on the opposite side of the road.

All lanes have now reopened on the M60 near Salford.
