Egypt’s Al-Ahly reject Al-Ittihad’s bid for World Cup star Emam Ashour, sources say

RIYADH: Al-Ittihad have had a bid for Egypt’s World Cup midfielder Emam Ashour rejected by Cairo giants Al-Ahly, according to a source close to the player who spoke to Arabic sports daily Arriyadiyah.

The source indicated that the Jeddah side opened negotiations with Al-Ahly to sign the 28-year-old during the current transfer window, submitting an initial offer of $6 million to the club in a deal worth $4 million per year to the player.

Al-Ahly signed the player in July 2023 from Danish club Midtjylland for about $3 million. The source added that Ashour currently earns an annual salary of $315,000.

Ashour’s World Cup colleague Marwan Attia is another target for Al-Ittihad, with the player sharing an agent with Ashour.

Al-Ahly have received an offer of $3.5 million for Attia. His annual salary would jump to $2.5 million should the move take place. He currently earns about $257,000.

However, according to the source, Attia’s departure from Al-Ahly seems unlikely at present.
