Edin Dzeko gives verdict on potential Man City vs Inter Milan Champions League final

Edin Dzeko is not giving too much thought to a potential Manchester City vs Inter Milan final in the Champions League, even if that is his dream scenario.

Dzeko, 37, scored the opener for Inter against AC Milan on Wednesday, before former Manchester United and Arsenal winger Henrikh Mkhitaryan added a second goal just 11 minutes in. Inter saw out their 2-0 win to take into their designated home leg next week, also at the San Siro.

Inter are now firm favourites to progress to the final, where they will face either City or Real Madrid, who are locked at 1-1 after the first leg in Spain.

And former Blues striker Dzeko admitted that a City-Inter final would be his preferred outcome, but preached the importance of Inter getting the job done against Milan next week.

"I wish!" he said when asked about facing City in the final. "I wasn't thinking that far because the semi-final is important, the last time I played it I lost. Some bad memories here, even if I scored in both games (for Roma against Liverpool in 2018).

"We knew you don't get to play every semi-final of the Champions League, especially with it being Milan-Inter. We were very aggressive from the first minute, we tried to hold the game and press them high. We were lucky to score in the first 11 minutes two goals. We were unlucky not to get a third one, but we have to be happy with 2-0 because we technically played the away game."

Dzeko played 189 times for City between 2011 and 2015, scoring 72 goals and assisting 38 times, and the Bosnian is still remembered fondly at the Etihad.
