Eddie Howe explains what frustrated him during Newcastle 1-0 win vs Manchester United

Eddie Howe's only frustration with Newcastle's performance in their comfortable 1-0 win against Manchester United was that his side didn't put the game to bed earlier.

Newcastle created plenty of chances in the first half against United at St. James' Park on Saturday, but it took 55th minutes for Anthony Gordon to finally break the deadlock.

Newcastle recorded a total of 22 shots against Erik ten Hag's side and they deserved the victory, which moved them into fifth position in the Premier League and above United.

United returned from the international break with a 3-0 win over Everton, but they drew against Galatasaray and lost against Newcastle in the space of just a few days.

Ten Hag was not happy with his side's performance, but his opposite number Howe was delighted when speaking to TNT Sports in his post-match interview.

"The only frustration today was that we didn't put the game to bed earlier," Howe said. "I thought it was a really good display, we were dominant. With Nick's [Pope] injury and the amount of extra time added there were always going to be some scary moments late on, but I thought we defended really well.

"I thought both players [Livramento and Miley] today were outstanding. I thought for Lewi, for a player so young to come and put in his best display of the three, it is harder to be consistent the longer you stay in the team. It was his best so far.

"Tino was the same. I think he's grown into the position and attacked really well, so I was delighted with both young players. It was a brilliant goal that we scored today, as a team, and he was in the right place at the right time to finish
