Eddie Hearn: No additional security for Katie Taylor fight

Promoter Eddie Hearn has said that no discussions have taken place regarding increased security for Katie Taylor's fight at the 3Arena following rioting in Dublin city centre last night.

Thirty-four people were arrested following violent disturbances. Earlier in the day, children were attacked outside a school in Parnell Square that has left a five-year-old girl in a critical condition.

Former Olympic champion Taylor will take on Chantelle Cameron for a make-or-break rematch at the 3Arena on Saturday night.

Speaking to RTÉ Sport ahead of the bout, Matchroom promoter Hearn said there has been no change in the security measures despite Friday night’s violence.

"No discussions yet," he confirmed. "If it’s needed, that will take place. Already, we have a big security presence in place, as always with our shows.

"At the moment there has been no additional conversations and everybody is just ready to move forward.

"Tomorrow night is a really important night for Irish sport and a massive night for an icon of Irish sport. I hope we can celebrate what will be a tremendous night with a great atmosphere."

Hearn also said that Conor McGregor will not be in attendance on Saturday night.

The company owned by the UFC star is one of the sponsors of the event, but the 35-year-old was criticised for comments posted on social media ahead of and during the riots in Dublin, with Tánaiste Micheál Martin labelling them "absolutely disgraceful".

Asked whether McGregor, a prominent figure for Taylor’s first homecoming contest, had become an overbearing presence for the rematch, Hearn said: "He’s not attending the event.

"He hasn’t planned to. It’s Katie’s night of course. Our focus is just on delivering a great event."
