The course is set and the players say they are ready. The stage is the maiden Eclectic Amateur Team Championship, which has received entries from over

110 golfers, who are battle ready for tickets to spend some nights in Kigali, Rwanda, all expense free.

It will hold at the prestigious Ikeja Golf Club, Lagos, from October 27 to 29, 2022.

According to the organisers, the championship will draw participants from across Nigeria and its West African neighbours to vie for the bumper packages.

The organisers say the choice of Rwanda is in recognition of the country’s status as a tourist hub in Africa, with a growing economy and a top-notch cultural heritage.

As a game with a special scoring format that allows a player to improve on his/her performance in a multiple-round in the championship, apart from the winner, who will get a ticket to Kigali, the organisers say the second place player is guaranteed an all-expense paid accommodation in the Republic of Benin, while the third place winner will enjoy same luxury in Nigeria at the Golf View Hotel, Lagos.

There will be many other prizes in the event put together by an organ, The Spirit Golf International, which, according to the organisers, will be registered with the blessings of the world golf governing body, Royal and Ancient (R&A) of St Andrews, Scotland, as a sub-regional event that promotes golf development.

Speaking ahead of the championship, Abel Edinomo, a co-founder and secretary general of West Africa Amateur Golf Association (WAAGA) and one-time Technical Director of the Nigeria Golf Federation (NGF) said the event is another way of diversifying the game of golf for more corporate presence and pleasure of golfers.”
