Former champion, Peter Eben-Spiff, who regained his crown at the 2023 edition of the Lakowe Lakes Golf Club Championship, has commended his closest challengers, Adetunji Adebayo and Lemmer Daniel, for the tough challenge they gave him during the two-day championship that ended on Sunday.
Eben-Spiff, a three-handicapper, returned a 74-gross score on the first day of the Lakowe Course crowning event of the year, where Adebayo and Daniel lurked behind with two and four shots respectively. Eben-Spiff said: “It was a well contested event and I am very glad Tunji and Mr. Lemmer gave the title a fight. I owe them this victory to them.”
He closed at 74 (+2) that totaled 148 and six strokes over last year’s winner, Adebayor. Lemmer placed third after the 36-hole event. Fatumata Soukouna defended her title after returning a 158 gross score in the two-day encounter, while Jummai Abdullahi finished in second place with a 170 gross score.
Speaking at the end of the event, Lakowe Lakes Golf and Country Estate’s Manager, Femi Olagbenro, said it helps to set the stage for more social interaction between club members, strengthen the bond among players and create platforms for corporates to leverage.
“The Club Championship is the crowning event for the members and this year is in no measure different, in terms of participation and the level of skills on display.”
That is how important the event has come to be on the club’s calendar,” Olagbenro added. Winners of the club’s Order-of-Merit for the 2023 golfing year were also announced, with Wilson Egberipou, Davis Maji, and Kyeongtaek Park emerging as the top three gentlemen respectively, while Jummai Abdullahi topped Simbi Wabote and Okey Ananaba and Peter Eben-Spiff for the Mixed Singles
