Ebbsfleet United sign former Chelsea, QPR, Coventry City and Charlton defender Todd Kane and former Wycombe, Aberdeen and MK Dons defender Anthony Stewart

Ebbsfleet manager Harry Watling has boosted his injury-hit squad by making a double signing.

The Fleet sit bottom of the National League and suffered further injury issues in the last week with Rakish Bingham added to the list of injuries while defender Lewis Page came off against Oldham in the first half on Saturday.

Watling, whose previous signing was the loan of Millwall midfielder Sha’mar Lawson, has moved for Todd Kane and Anthony Stewart.

Former Chelsea youngster Kane has enjoyed spells at Coventry and QPR since then, the 31-year-old who can play in either full-back role ended last season at Stockport County in League 2 where he made two starts and one substitute appearance. In total, Kane has more than 250 league appearances to his name.

Stewart spent the majority of his career at Wycombe Wanderers. A centre-back by trade, the 32-year-old has been without a club since being released by Aldershot at the end of last season.

He made 250 league appearances for Wycombe and also had two loan spells at MK Dons in the past two seasons.

The duo will be keen to boost a defence which has conceded 25 goals in 12 league games - more than any other side in the division.

Ebbsfleet’s current injury list also includes Nathan Odokonyero, Kwame Thomas, Toby Edser, Jim Kellermann and Dominic Samuel.

Kane and Stewart could both feature in the new National League Cup competition on Tuesday night when Ebbsfleet play the first of four home group matches against West Brom at Stonebridge Road (kick-off 7pm).
