Ebbsfleet United manager Dennis Kutrieb hopes top scorer Dominic Poleon came off due to fatigue rather than injury during 1-1 draw at Woking

Ebbsfleet manager Dennis Kutrieb is hoping for good news on top scorer Dominic Poleon.

The livewire striker was substituted at half-time during Tuesday night’s 1-1 draw at Woking in the National League.

Kutrieb felt Poleon was suffering from jetlag following international duty during last weekend’s clash with Chesterfield and believes fatigue could have played a part in midweek. He’ll find out more this week.

“We will see,” said Kutrieb. “I can’t tell you exactly if he is injured or just a bit fatigued.

“We will assess him on Wednesday and then we’ll know a little bit more.

“It’s always a problem when you need to make decisions if internationals are right or wrong. The player needs to decide.

“He had jetlag on Saturday and went off with fatigue today, hopefully not more.

“This is always the trouble if you have long journeys to go to for internationals. Everything is different so this is a problem and a challenge but it is what it is.”

Kutrieb was proud of his players for their much-improved second-half performance at Woking.

The Fleet levelled through Ouss Cisse and had a glorious chance in stoppage time but Shaq Coulthirst’s strike was saved.

“We played a strong opponent who were in the play-offs last season,” said the Fleet boss.

“In the second half, we were on top of them but we were disappointed at the end, one-on-one with the keeper (not to win).

“At 1-0, I said to the boys to stay in the game as we would get our chances. There was no chance that they could press with that intensity for 90 minutes.

“It’s not possible for 90 minutes so we could find ways a bit different to usual to come out. We were on top of them and if we go home with a 2-1 win everyone may say it was a fair result.
