EasyJet and Ryanair issue updates to passengers as flights cancelled and delayed

EasyJet has issued a statement to passengers after it was forced to cancel ‘some flights’ this morning (Sunday July 21) due to ‘weather-related air traffic control restrictions’. Ryanair has also told passengers that it is experiencing ‘excessive flight delays’.

The delays and cancellations come after thousands of flights were cancelled around the world on Friday following a global IT outage. It coincided with one of the busiest weekends of the year for travel with thousands of families jetting off for the start of the school holidays.

In a statement on its website, EasyJet said: “easyJet will operate around 1900 flights today, unfortunately some flights this morning were unable to operate due to the knock on impact of weather related ATC restrictions yesterday which led to aircraft being positioned out of base. We are doing all possible to minimise the impact on our customers, providing those on cancelled flights with options to rebook or receive a refund, as well as hotel accommodation and meals where required.

“We advise customers due to travel with us today to continue to check the latest updates on their flight on easyJet’s Flight Tracker before making their way to the airport. The safety and wellbeing of customers and crew is easyJet’s highest priority and while this is outside of our control, we would like to apologise to customers for the inconvenience caused.”

Ryanair has also issued a statement apologising for delays to its flight. It said: “Ryanair, Europe’s No.1 airline, on Sun 21 July apologises to its passengers for the excessive flight delays caused by European ATC staff shortages today Sun 21 July which are affecting all European
