Eagles seeking redemption for World Cup failure with AFCON ticket, says Osimhen

With a feeling of disappointment still hovering around over their failure to qualify Nigeria for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, Napoli striker, Victor Osimhen, has said the Super Eagles  will do everything to win their 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Guinea-Bissau and secure a ticket to the tournament in Cote d’Ivoire next year.

The Super Eagles failed to make their seventh appearance at the global football showpiece in November last year, to the extreme disappointment of highly expectant football fans in the country.

The 2023 AFCON qualifiers have given the players the opportunity to quickly make soccer-loving Nigerians forget the pain of having to watch the mundial without their darling team.

The Jose Peseiro-led boys have recorded two wins from as many matches so far in the qualification series after defeating both Sierra Leone as well as Sao Tome and Principe.

A win in their third Group A game against the Wild Dogs of Guinea Bissau at the MKO Abiola national stadium in Abuja today will see the three-time African champions take a step closer to another appearance at the biggest football event on the continent.

With a full complement of the players at his disposal and no injury worries, Peseiro and his team are expected to brush aside the visitors who are closely following Nigeria in second place with four points from two matches.
