Eagles RT Lane Johnson enters season with farewell mindset - ESPN

PHILADELPHIA — Eagles standout right tackle Lane Johnson announced Saturday that this will likely be his last season in the NFL.

Johnson, 36, returned to the team Friday after missing four practices for personal reasons. The pull of family life has been weighing on him and will likely lead to his calling it a career after 2026, his 14th year in the league.

«As you get older, things change in your life, priorities. Your children get older, your parents get older, it just puts things into perspective,» he said. «It's looking like this is potentially going to be probably my last year just because I am getting to that point. Those priorities away from football are starting to merge. I love everything about this game and am preparing for it, but this is kind of where I'm at in my career.»

Johnson said the plan was always to return to the Eagles following his brief hiatus. He said, «My mom is struggling with some health stuff, my dad,» developments that put what matters into focus.

He also noted that his oldest child is turning 13 soon and that «it's hard to get time back, especially those years I feel like are very pivotal.»

Johnson has put together a Hall of Fame-worthy career since being selected fourth overall by the Eagles out of Oklahoma in 2013. He has been named to the Pro Bowl six times and received first-team All-Pro honors twice while helping the Eagles to a pair of Super Bowl championships — the only two in franchise history.

He missed the final eight games of the 2025 season, including playoffs, with a Lisfranc injury.

Johnson said he discussed retirement with his family last year and has relayed to his teammates his intention to make this season his last, an action that he said puts him «at ease» as he gears up
