Dwight Yorke agrees with Erik ten Hag transfer message at Manchester United

Dwight Yorke has joined the chorus of voices calling for Erik ten Hag to be given “full control” at Manchester United.

Ten Hag will arrive at Old Trafford at the end of the current season, having had his appointment officially announced last week by the club. The 52-year-old becomes United’s fifth permanent manager since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013.

Ten Hag will face a huge task as he picks up the pieces of what has been a dire season for United. With a number of players set to leave in the summer — including the likes of Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic and Edinson Cavani — there will be plenty of work for the Dutchman to do in the upcoming transfer window.

Ahead of his arrival, a number of former players and pundits have called for Ten Hag to be given full control of the club’s transfers. United’s dealings in the market over the years has been heavily criticised, with the club standing as the biggest spenders in the Premier League over the past 10 years, but with very little silverware to show for it.

The Ajax boss revealed in an interview with Dutch outlet Trouw that he wouldn’t have taken the job at Old Trafford had he not been assured of “control in transfers”. And former striker Yorke has backed the calls for Ten Hag to be the deciding factor in United’s dealings going forward.

"I keep saying that he has to embrace going in there and have full control," Yorke told ESPN.

"If he has full control he can implement his style, his way, and the players that he wants on board to make sure he can get the best out of them. I think that is the key.

"I think they will give him time, the fans are aware of that. But they want to see
