Dustin Poirier open to fourth Conor McGregor fight - but only in a boxing ring

Dustin Poirier has claimed he would be willing to face Conor McGregor again but only if it takes place in a boxing ring.

'The Diamond' defeated McGregor twice in 2021, most recently securing victory when the Irishman breaking his leg during their trilogy bout in July.

Poirier has since been handed a devastating blow after suffering submission defeat to Charles Oliveira and is assessing his future options.

When asked if he would be opened to a fourth meeting with McGregor, Poirier responded on Twitter : "Probably not."

He was later asked if he would enter the boxing ring to which he replied: "I'd love to, no rear naked chokes there."

Poirier was then asked if he would face McGregor in the boxing ring, which he tweeted in response: "Book it."

The American star also confirmed he would be willing to fight Diaz who has been calling for him ever since his defeat to Oliveira at the end of last year.

However he quickly moved to dismiss a meeting with lightweight contender Michael Chandler who is set to face Tony Ferguson in his next bout.

Poirier lost to McGregor in their maiden meeting back in 2014 with an opening round knockout, but later avenged his defeat with a second-round stoppage on 'Fight Island'.

His most recent victory over McGregor came in July where he secured another victory in the opening round after McGregor was left unable to continue after breaking his leg.

McGregor has already fought in the boxing ring in a huge clash against Floyd Mayweather which generated over $500million.

This could be an appeal to Poirier who has previously entertained the idea of more financially rewarding fights in the aftermath of his clashes with McGregor.
