Drumlanrig OffRoad Motorsport Festival returns bigger than ever

Drumlanrig OffRoad Motorsport Festival came back bigger and better than ever with several disciplines within the motorsport, including flat-field motocross, off-road bike trails and kid-friendly events such as pedal-powered scalextric racing fun.

The event welcomed riders from all over the world, including Brad Lackey who is the first and only American to win the 500cc Motocross World Championship in 1982, Heikki Mikkola who is notable for being a four-time FIM Motocross World Champion and Roger De Coster, a Belgian former professional racer who won five Motorcross World Championships during the 1970s and tallying a record 36 500cc Grand Prix Victories.

Archie Baird, competitor and worker at the event said: “This is one of the best and biggest events of its kind in the UK. There were over 300 competitors at the weekend and the most unique thing about it is that three world champions attended. It was the first time they were together at the event as the guests of honour.”

Mr Baird took part in Drumlanrig OffRoad Motorsport Festival before the pandemic. He won the Scottish Championship last year in the Pre-74 class and over 60 age group class and has been in motorsport since 1975.

He commented: “This year it was like nothing before. It was a really good weekend, especially considering the amount of work that went into it to organise everything. Kenny and the team worked hard to achieve this level of the event in the region.”

Event organiser Kenny Harper further added: “This year it was important for us to create a bigger festival as it is our first one after the pandemic.
