Driver climbs out of overturned car and runs away after Audi flips onto roof during police chase

This is the wreckage left behind after a driver lost control of his Audi before trying to run from police. Greater Manchester Police says the car had been spotted with cloned number plates by officers on Sunday (October 9).

Police tried to get the driver to pull over, but GMP says he didn't stop. The chase began in Bowlee, near Middleton, and continued through Simister.

Eventually, the driver lost control of the Audi on Simister Lane, GMP says. An image shared by the force on social media this morning (Monday) shows the car entirely on its roof, in a field off the road.

Three police cars can be seen parked up at the scene, on Simister Lane. After the chase came to an abrupt end, the driver remarkably managed to get out of the car.

He then tried to run away, GMP says. But police were eventually able to catch up with the driver, who was arrested on suspicion of a number of offences.

In a post on Twitter this morning (Monday), a spokesperson for GMP Traffic wrote: "Yesterday our #TPAC #RPU patrols pursued this cloned Audi which failed to stop in Bowlee before the driver lost control and crashed on Simister Lane. He ran off but was captured and found to be wanted for various matters after trying to give false details. Now in custody."
