Driver caught 'drinking bottle of wine at the WHEEL' near M62

A driver was arrested after police saw him drinking a bottle of wine - at the wheel. The astonishing sight was witnessed by North West Motorway Police officers near to the M62 motorway earlier on Wednesday.

Details are scarce but the driver held, a man, is understood to be being questioned by police. The man was arrested 'just off the M62' after he was sighted on the M6 motorway.

No exact location has been revealed. It's also not known what type of vehicle he was driving.

North West Motorway Police revealed news of the arrest on Twitter.

It's likely a breath test was carried out at the roadside, but it's not been confirmed whether the motorist concerned was over the legal drink-drive limit.

In a tweet, they said: "A driver has been arrested just off the M62 by our MC patrols after he was sighted on the M6 drinking a bottle of wine at the wheel."
