Dramatic footage shows moment police ram car after high-speed chase

Dramatic footage shows the moment police rammed a car driven by a suspected dangerous driver following a high speed police chase through Stockport.

Dashcam video shows the Ford Fiesta reaching speeds of almost 70mph as it was pursued through the streets of Hazel Grove last night (Thursday). It can be seen weaving though tight terraced streets and swerving onto the wrong side of the road, as the driver tries to shake off the patrol car.

But the pursuit came to an end when the driver ended up down an dead end on Cooper Street, with the Fiesta rammed by the chasing cop car. As the driver gets out of the car he is pinned to the floor, handcuffed and detained.

Today police said a 38-year-old man had been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, driving whilst disqualified, driving without third party insurance and possession of class A drugs.

The chase came during Operation Avro, GMP's monthly blitz on local crime. Yesterday more than 65 arrests were made alongside 145 vehicle stops.

As part of the operation the Manchester Evening News attended a raid on a property in Cheadle Hulme as officers discovered a huge cannabis farm, estimated to be worth £300,000.

Speaking at the time Chief Supt Lewis Hughes told the M.E.N.: "It's about community engagement, being highly visible, showing that Greater Manchester Police is a force for good. We are tackling wanted criminals such as burglaries and vehicle crime, we're tackling broader crimes."
