Dover Athletic defender Jake Goodman says he wants to score at least five goals this season

Jake Goodman is hoping he can chip in with a few more goals for Dover before the end of the season.

The defender scored in Whites’ 3-1 home defeat to Torquay last time out.

It was Goodman’s second goal this season and he revealed: “I like to chip in with at least five, that’s normally a target of mine.

“There’s been chances I should have scored but, when the next chance does come, I have to make sure I take it.”

Goodman is looking forward to getting back in action after an unusual week.

Their scheduled home fixture against Notts County last Tuesday was called off, much to the frustration of chairman Jim Parmenter, before their weekend trip to FC Halifax was also postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

“It’s been a bit tough,” admitted Goodman, who still headed to the Leeds area over the weekend to visit his partner’s family.

“I’m a player that likes to play as much as possible. I don’t like postponements because it messes up my routine.”

Dover visit Aldershot tonight before welcoming Grimsby, who sit just outside the play-off places, to Crabble this Saturday. Full-back Myles Judd remains suspended for both games.

Boss Andy Hessenthaler has managed to bolster his attacking options, though, bringing in ex-West Ham forward Djair Parfitt-Williams.

Parfitt-Williams trained with the club last week ahead of signing on a non-contract basis, having played for the Hammers’ first-team in both legs of their Europa League qualifiers over Andorran side Lusitanos in July 2015.

Goodman liked what he saw from the Bermudan-born player and said: “To be fair, we trained with him last week.

“Hopefully he can hit the ground running. He gives us another up front.
