Dover Athletic captain Ryan Hanson undergoes emergency surgery for 'non-football-related' condition and faces up to three weeks out

Dover captain Ryan Hanson is facing up to three weeks out after undergoing emergency surgery for a "non-football-related" condition.

Hanson, appointed as the National League club's new skipper at the start of February after Sam Wood's departure, was taken ill at home on Monday night.

A club statement read: "The 21-year-old midfielder was taken ill at home before being taken by ambulance to Ashford’s William Harvey Hospital - he was later transferred to Canterbury for surgery.

"The procedure went well and Ryan, who faces up to three weeks out, is now resting and recuperating at home with his family.

"Needless to say, everyone at the club sends Ryan their best wishes for a full and speedy recovery."

Hanson, who is playing for his home-town club, had played the full 90 minutes during Dover's 3-1 loss to Grimsby at Crabble on Saturday.

He joined the club on a permanent last summer after a loan spell with Whites from Hull during the 2020/21 season.
