Douglas Luiz makes feelings clear on Aston Villa future amid Arsenal transfer links

Douglas Luiz was heavily linked with a transfer away from Aston Villa in January with Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United all reportedly interested.

The 23-year-old's future at Villa Park has come under question as he enters the final 12 months of his contract at the end of the season.

Luiz was reportedly the subject of multiple offers in January, but Villa declined those approaches and hope to pin him down to a new deal soon.

Asked about his ambitions with Villa, the midfielder said in Villa's matchday programme: "My ambitions are to continue as I am: to help the team, to play every game.

"We know there are many games at the moment and it's quite difficult to maintain a high level throughout the season because of fatigue, because of injuries.

"My objective is to maintain a high level, to score goals, to get assists and to help the team in every way that I can."

Luiz has made a total of 97 appearances for Villa since signing on in the summer of 2019 following the club's promotion back to the Premier League.

He joined the club from Manchester City, but Pep Guardiola insisted on inserting a buy-back clause in the deal struck with Villa to take him to the Midlands.

That clause expired in June 2021, though Luiz has not yet penned fresh terms.
