Doubts over Sbu Nkosi's fitness as Springboks jet off to Europe: 'The Boks will make the call'

Bulls wing Sbu Nkosi came off injured during the Bulls’ 40-27 win over the Sharks at Loftus on Sunday night, putting slight doubts over his Springbok end-year tour to Europe.

Try-scorer Stravino Jacobs replaced the World Cup winner during the interval after hurting his rib in the contest.

The Boks had already lost one Bulls winger, the exciting Canan Moodie, before the touring squad was announced and were at risk of losing another.

Nkosi was part of the group travelling with the Boks on Sunday to Dublin for Saturday’s Ireland Test.

"He hurt his rib," said Bulls director of rugby Jake White after the match.

"During half-time, he said he wanted to carry on. As I speak, they’re busy injecting it.

"He had a flight tonight (Sunday night) with the Bok team to Europe. I’m sure our doctor will talk to their medical team about the injuries we’ve got.

"The call will be made by the national team to decide whether they want him – because they might want to rehab him for a while – or whether they’re going to take someone else.

"It’s a long tour. I’m sure he can always go but it’s not my call. I’ll leave all that up to the medical staff."

The Boks have some SA A players also flying to Europe for midweek clashes against Munster and Bristol.

They could call up any of Aphelele Fassi (Sharks), Cornal Hendricks (Bulls), or Suleiman Hartzenberg (Stormers) as replacements for Nkosi, should he fail to recover.
