Door open for Leicester City move as club chief waits for transfer answer

Leicester City’s wait for a first signing of the summer goes on, even as their Premier League rivals press ahead with deals.

City are one of seven top-flight sides yet to have confirmed a first-team signing this summer, alongside Brentford, Chelsea, Everton, Fulham, Manchester United, and Wolves. But some of those clubs, notably Chelsea with Raphinha, Manchester United with Tyrell Malacia, and Brentford with Keane Lewis-Potter, appear to be nearing deals, which cannot be said about City.

Aside from 2020, when Covid delays pushed the season back, City have announced at least one signing by the end of June in every summer since returning to the Premier League, but that looks unlikely to be a record they keep up. They have six weeks before the start of a Premier League season that Rodgers had hoped would provide a reset for the club, the manager eyeing five or six new recruits as part of a “healthy shake-up”.

Leicester City may be given a boost before the end of the summer transfer window with the arrival of Martyn Glover as head of recruitment.

City have been without anyone in the position since the departure of Lee Congerton back in March. The former City man left back in March, joining Serie A side Atalanta after three years with the club.

His departure led to City searching for a new head of recruitment, with Southampton’s Martin Glover quickly identified as the man to take the role. It did, though, seem that the club would have to wait until the end of the transfer window to complete the appointment with the Saints keen for him to oversee the summer window .
