Donny van de Beek outlines Everton target that will benefit Manchester United

Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek admits he feels comfortable with having to 'prove himself' for a second time during his loan stint with Everton.

The 24-year-old completed a move to Goodison Park on January deadline day after failing to start a single Premier League game for United this season.

Having found game-time hard to come by during his debut campaign, the Netherlands international was promised further opportunities by sacked Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in 2021/2022.

However, that did not come to pass and the former Ajax player had to look elsewhere, even though Ralf Rangnick wanted to keep the £40million signing at Old Trafford.

Van de Beek has played three matches for the Toffees - and he was instrumental in their win over Leeds - while he also has one clear motive for the remainder of his time on Merseyside.

Speaking to the Everton FC website, van de Beek said: "It was difficult when we came to England.

"There were no fans in the stadiums, our family couldn't visit us. Everything was closed, so we couldn't go out.

"We were at home together every day and I didn't play so many games - so it was a difficult time. But we [van de Beek and partner Estelle] helped each other and tried to stay positive. We came out of it.

"The injury was too painful to play in the Euros.

"I recovered and increased my time in the gym, working on my strength and fitness, to prepare well for the season. It was an opportunity to improve myself."

On his introduction at Everton, the Dutchman added: "I always try my best and it feels good when you know the supporters are behind you. Their passion is amazing and it was important to win [against Leeds] for them and also for the team.

Would you keep van de Beek next season? Have your say
