Donny van de Beek makes Ronald Koeman and Manchester United claim after Everton move

Donny van de Beek has opened up on the "special" reaction he received from Everton fans and admitted he didn't expect to be welcomed so warmly.

The midfielder became the first signing of Frank Lampard's time at the club after he completed a deadline day loan switch from Manchester United last month.

The midfielder earned his first start against Leeds United and was named the club's man of the match after the game, before keeping his place in the side last time out against Southampton.

The 24-year-old has been following Everton since Ronald Koeman's time as manager, but he admitted he was taken aback by fans singing his name 15 minutes into his full debut at Goodison Park.

Van de Beek told evertonfc.com : "That was so special, I didn’t expect it.

"I always try my best and it feels good when you know the supporters are behind you.

"Their passion is amazing and it was important to win [against Leeds] for them and for the team.

"I have followed the club since Ronald Koeman was manager. I know a lot about Everton and the big fanbase and the expectation and I will give everything for this huge club.

"For my motivation every day, I remember where I started. I always think about this – and always believe there is another way to go up again.

"I believe in my qualities and know what I can do. I have all the time to do it again and it is up to me to show it."

Van de Beek struggled to hit the ground running when he made the move from Ajax to Manchester United in the summer of 2020.

The midfielder and his family moved to the Premier League during a period where matches were played behind-closed-doors, which he admits was difficult.
