Donal Lenihan's URC provincial verdicts

The URC has been outstanding so far this season.

Of the 16 teams, Leinster are the only side with a 100% record, four from four. They will be favourites.

Connacht just have that victory over Munster but because that new 4G pitch was being laid in Galway, they had to play three games away and they couldn't have been three tougher games: Ulster in Ravenhill, then in South Africa, the Stormers and the Bulls, who contested last year’s final.

No surprise they lost those but getting the victory over Munster last week, a full house back in the Sportsground, that will give them a boost. They always raise their game against Leinster, as everybody else does.

It has been a horrific start for Munster, one win out of four. In contrast to Connacht, they have played teams that are all in the bottom half of the league. They have lost away to Cardiff, lost to Dragons, a narrow win over Zebre in Cork and lost to Connacht last week.

There is a lot of concern about the way they are playing down here.

They are back in Thomond Park for the first time this season and I will be interested to see how many turn up because there is a lot of negativity surround them. The confidence seems to have sapped out of their team.

It’s a huge game for them because after this they play Leinster in the Aviva and welcome Ulster back to Limerick. So it’s almost a must-win game in a very competitive league. If they lose on Saturday night against a strong Bulls side then they are in danger of not qualifying for the Heineken
