Don’t sign Osimhen, ex-Chelsea player warns club
Former Chelsea defender, Glen Johnson, has spoken against the club’s desire to sign striker Victor Osimhen, who is currently on loan at Galatasaray from Napoli.
At Galatasaray, Osimhen has been able to deliver 15 goals in 19 appearances in all competitions this season.
Despite his performance, Johnson expressed the belief that Chelsea would be better off with a player who has proven himself in the English Premier League.
“Anyone that’s scoring goals in other leagues, that’s great and that’s a credit to them. But if you’ve got someone that’s already doing it in the Premier League, that has to be a box ticked,” Johnson told Sports Mole.
“There are certain players like Osimhen that look like they have absolutely every attribute to do well in the Premier League, but we’ve seen that before, and sometimes it doesn’t happen. When someone is doing it in the Premier League, if they’re available, that is a safer bet than somebody that isn’t.”
Despite lauding the contributions of Cole Palmer and the improved Nicolas Jackson, Johnson expressed the need for more attacking options for Chelsea.
