Don explains decision to hold Sallah karate programme

A Karate enthusiast, Prof. Sabo Ahmed Mohammed of the College of Health Sciences, University of Jos, has described the karate ‘Sallah show,’a yearly programme held in the Plateau State capital, as an avenue to promote the sport and educate the public on the importance of combat sport in their lives.
  
Explaining that karate is a combat sport that helps individuals protect themselves from aggressors,Mohammed stressed that the sport brings young people to appreciate the value of kinetics and things that happen with movement and sports and competitions and at the end of the day they become healthier for it.
  
He told The Guardian after various karate exercises at the Government Secondary School, Gangare in Jos North Council that the sport is not only meant for young people, but also adults.

Also speaking on the yearly exercise, one of the coaches involved in the project, Shaibu Abubakar, explained that karate is described as a combat game and is also referred to as an art of peace, saying that both definitions are not contradictory.
 
“Physically, you are only learning how to fight, but mentally and psychologically you are learning how to defend yourself and the community.”
