'Does not bode well for Sevilla' - Jack Rosser drops worrying West Ham claim ahead of Thursday
West Ham may have got back to winning ways in the Premier League this afternoon against Aston Villa, but as tweeted by Jack Rosser, the victory appears to have come at a cost.
The Irons came into the match having lost their last three games in all competitions and without the services of several key players, but they managed to prevail 2-1 in front of their own fans in east London.
Angelo Ogbonna remains a long-term injury victim, while Vladimir Coufal and Jarrod Bowen were also ruled out for the visit of Steven Gerrard’s team today (Premier Injuries).
Four days ahead of the second leg of their Europa League last 16 clash against Sevilla, David Moyes may have yet another injury to factor into his thinking, with Aaron Cresswell limping off during the second half.
Roughly an hour into today’s match, Rosser – who was providing Twitter updates on proceedings at the London Stadium – tweeted: “Cresswell now down and injured, Fredericks getting ready. Does not bode well for Sevilla.”
With Moyes already shorn of multiple defenders in Coufal and Ogbonna, it would be far from ideal if he is also deprived of Cresswell’s services for the visit of Sevilla on Thursday night.
The 32-year-old has been West Ham’s emphatic first-choice left-back throughout the campaign, and while Arthur Masuaku can be called upon to deputise if needed, the creativity of the English full-back could be badly missed on a night when the Irons must win to keep their European campaign going.
With 1.2 key passes per game, only three players (all attackers or midfielders) have created chances with more regularity this season (as per WhoScored). One of those is Bowen, who is also on the treatment table, and another is Antonio, who like Cresswell was forced off
