DJ forced to pull out of Parklife after being diagnosed with rare cancer

Michael Bibi has been forced to pull out of this weekend’s Parklife festival after being diagnosed with a rare brain cancer.

The London-based DJ and producer, who is best known for his house and techno brand SolidGrooves, was set to play at the Heaton Park festival’s The Valley stage on Sunday (June 12).

Posting on Instagram, Bibi said he had been hospitalised after being diagnosed with central nervous system lymphoma, a rare cancer that can affect the brain and spine.

Bibi said: “Hello world, writing this post is a hard one.. last week I was diagnosed with CNS Lymphoma. A very rare cancer that effects the brain & spine.

“Unfortunately it’s moving fast & l to have to stay in hospital starting treatment immediately.

“Typing this message doesn’t quite seem real & I’m sorry for the bad news. I don’t know what lies ahead, I’m tired but I know I am strong & I won’t let this beat me. Wish me luck & I will be back stronger for you all. Love Bibi.”

The statement comes after the DJ had to cancel a string of dates earlier this year after experiencing a number of health problems relating to tinnitus. Last month, he said he ‘had some tinnitus’ and doctors had to perform a number of tests as ‘it turns out it’s more of a neurological problem’.

Honey Dijon, Joe Wicks, Tiesto, Steve Aoki, Disclosure, and Hannah Wants were amongst those to post messages of support to the DJ. The Warehouse Project commented: "Manchester sends its full love & support Michael.”
