Diwali 2024 - All the events taking place in Manchester to celebrate the Festival of Lights

South Asian cinema nights, children's arts and crafts sessions and nightclub takeovers are just some of the events taking place across Greater Manchester to celebrate Diwali 2024.

The five-day celebration, also known as the Festival of Lights, takes place each year to recognise the "victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance". Originated in India, the celebration is an important tradition on the Hindu, Sikh and Jain calendar.

Traditionally, the joyous occasion is commemorated with lanterns, decorative clothes and oil lamps as well as fireworks, large feasts and parties. Dates change every year, but for 2024 Diwali falls on October 31.
