Dispersal order in place as two men injured after string of 'violent crimes'

A dispersal order has been put in place in Droylsden today (June 9) following a string of 'violent crime' in the Tameside town. The order follows reports of two men being taken to hospital with injuries after an incident yesterday (June 8).

At around 4.25pm on Thursday, Greater Manchester Police were called to a disturbance on Cemetery Road in Droylsden. Police say two men were then taken to hospital with injuries to their legs which are believed not to be life-threatening.

Police have now put a dispersal order in place across the area until 6pm on Saturday (June 10). The order gives police the power to stop and search individuals within the defined area during this time period.

The order has been introduced following recent incidents of violent crime in the past week in the area and surrounding areas, a spokesman for GMP said.

It comes after a 51-year-old woman died following a fatal stabbing in the area last Friday (June 2).

Detective Inspector Steven Horton said: “I would like to thank the local community for their patience and understanding while we try and establish the full circumstances around this incident.

“We believe this is a targeted attack and we are appealing to the public for their help, if anyone has any information that could assist us with our enquiries, please do come forward.

“Extra patrol officers have been deployed around the local area both on foot and in patrol cars. If you have any concerns about this incident our officers will be happy to provide reassurance and listen to any of your queries.”

Anyone with information or footage - including CCTV, doorbell or dashcam - related to this incident is urged to contact GMP.
