Dispersal order in place around Gillingham Railway Station as Gillingham FC take on Leyton Orient

A dispersal order has been put in place around a railway station ahead of a football match.

The order covers the streets around Gillingham High Street and will run until 1am tomorrow morning.

It's being put in place to tackle any anti-sociable behaviour which might arise as a result of "higher than usual footfall" due to a football match, police say.

Gillingham FC are set to take on Leyton Orient at Priestfield tonight in League 2.

Police have issued a plea for both sets of fans to remain in the stands with the away side warning its supporters against the use of "pyrotechnics".

"The pitch is for the players only and entering is an arrestable offence," a tweet from police said.

"Additional officers will be deployed tonight to help ensure everyone stays safe."

A spokesman for the police added: "The order has been put in place to tackle any anti-social behaviour which might arise as there is expected to be a higher than usual footfall in the area due to a football match."

The area has previously been subject to a similar order following reports of yobs causing havoc.

The streets covered by the order are those immediately surrounding Gillingham train station and include parts of Jeffery Street and Duncan Road.
